A perfect weather to post this hot spicy mutton chops recipe. I was grateful to have my mom prepare this delicious gravy. Luckily i managed to take a picture before everyone licked it off their plates. I'm sure all of you meat lovers will enjoy every bit of this recipe.
MUTTON CHOPS PEPPER THOKKU |
Ingredients:
- 1/2 kg mutton chops
- 3 medium sized onions
- 2 small tomatoes
- 2 red chillis
- 2 tbsp peppercorns
- 1 1/2 tsp of coriander powder
- 1 1/2 tbsp chopped mint leaves
- 1 1/2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
- 1/2 tbsp curry leaves
- 1 tbsp fresh ginger/garlic paste
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2-3 cloves
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- pinch of turmeric
- 2 1/2 cups of water
- salt to taste
- 4 tbsp oil
For Masala:
Grind 1 tomato, 2 onions, 2 red chillis and peppercorns to a fine paste and set aside
Gravy:
- Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan. Add mustard, cinnamon and cloves. Let them splutter and release the aroma.
- Add chopped onions, fry till golden brown.
- Toss on the chopped tomatoes and ginger-garlic paste, mint leaves, curry leaves and coriander. Saute till it becomes whole and roasted.
- Add the Masala.
- The oil should bubble around the gravy.
- Meanwhile, pressure cook the chops with salt and turmeric for about 4-5 whistles with enough water.
- Let the pressure release add the cooked chops along with the stock.
- Allow the gravy and chops to simmer for about 25 minutes on medium flame. You can decide the time based on how you would like the consistency of the gravy.
- Garnish with coriander. Serve hot and eat with any bread, idli/dosai, rice or biryani.
