Goli Uralai Kizhangu Varuval - Baby Potatoes

This is a family favourite! Goes perfect with rasam, sambar, curd rice and not to mention any variety rice. And guess what I love it as they remind me of Golis that we used to play with as children. A simple recipe you can try. Make it and pop it!


Uralai Kizhangu Varuval - Baby Potatoes fry















Ingredients:

  • 1/2 kg boiled and peeled baby potatoes
  • 2 medium size onions - finely chopped
  • 2 medium size tomatoes - finely choppes
  • 6 - 7 crushed garlic pods
  • 6- 7 curry leaves
  • 1 1/2 tsp - coriander powder
  • 1 1/2 - chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 11/2 cup water
  • 3 - 4 tbsp Oil
  • salt as needed
  • chopped coriander leaves

Method:

  • Heat oil in a pan. Add the mustard seeds and wait it it splutters.
  • Saute onion in the pan. Add the curry leaves and crushed garlic.
  • Keep stirring till golden brown.
  • Now add the tomatoes, saute till the raw smell goes away.
  • Add the baby potatoes and mix well.
  • Sprinkle the dry ingredients and add water. Mix well till well combined.
  • Close the pan with a lid for 10 - 15 minutes. You will see a thick gravy coming along.
