Nellai Mutton Fry - Lamb Fry

I like those weekends when suddenly there is a bottle of wine, tastiest of meat on a plate and simple bread to go with. I can only say I'm truly blessed to be here, and if you are reading this you are blessed too because you will make it beautiful day after trying this recipe! :)

Ingredients:

  • 250 gms of mutton/lamb (medium pieces)
  • 2 tbsp of thick curd
  • 1 tsp of chilli powder
  • 2 tsp of salt
  • 1 onion (thin slices)
  • 1 tomato (thin slices)
  • 1/4 tsp of fennel seeds
  • 1 tbsp of crushed ginger
  • 1 tbsp of crushed garlic
  • 3 red chillies
  • 6-7 curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp of chopped coriander leaves
  • 1/4 tsp of garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp of pepper
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 3-4 cloves
  • 1 elaichi
  • 3-4 tbsp of groundnut oil
  • 1/4 cup of water

Method:

  1. In a bowl, mix the mutton, curd, crushed garlic, ginger, 1 tsp of salt and chilli powder. Cover it and let it rest for 30 - 45 minutes. Longer the better.
  2. Heat oil in a cooker, add cinnamon, fennel, clove, elaichi, chillies and curry leaves. Allow it to splutter.
  3. Then add onion and saute for 5 minutes on medium heat.
  4. Once it changes colour, add the marinated mutton along with the tomatoes. Mix well. Stir occasionally for about 8-9 minutes.
  5. Pour water and pop the lid. Allow 4-5 whistles on low flame. Let it cool. Please do not force the pressure out, it would probably ruin your day.
  6. Now heat the mutton gravy and allow it to bubble till it thickens. The consistency should be semi-dry. Ofcourse if you want it to go with rice you can leave it bubble for lesser time.
  7. Garnish with coriander and serve with bread, wine and what not :)

Keep smiling, keep cooking!
